Local bottled water manufacturers have abandoned the blue plastic bottles and started packaging water with white (colorless) plastic bottles.
Manufacturers have been packaging blue colored plastic bottles for a long time. However, according to the research conducted by the Food and Beverage Industry Research and Development Center, it has been decided that plastic bottles have an impact on the packaging environment, it is not suitable for reuse and it will cause unnecessary foreign exchange expenses, bottle coloring masters should not be used.
Ashenafi Mered, the general manager of Ethiopian Beverage Manufacturers Industry Association, told the Ethio Trade and Investment Forum, the decision has been passed after a year of research that the removal of plastic bottle coloring and the packaging of water in white bottles reduces the impact on the environment and saves foreign currency. Therefore, bottled water manufacturers have accepted the decision. From October 1, 2015 Mr. Ashenafi has said that they have started producing white (colorless) plastic bottles.
